Lent is a religious culture which almost starts on Ash Wednesday and ends after six weeks of this day just before the Easter Sunday. The primary purpose of Lent is to prepare the believers to have complete faith on Easter from prayers. These prayers can be done in the form of Penance, Mortifying the flesh and self-denial of things. This event is observed by many Catholic Churches. Lent is all about how Christian will sacrifice their things just for Jesus. This day leads to peace and fasting with true prayers. During these 40 days of prayers, each Church performs different prayers which can be in different forms like removing the flowers and lights. These things are performing to show peace and simplicity. According to the Gospels, Jesus almost spends 40 days fasting in the deserts. Lent ends during the evening of Holy Thursdayto Easter Sunday. It depends on the moonlight or sometimes the calendar. This festival is also used to describe the season in English which refer to the spring season. The violet color is used to describe the penance and detachment, but in some other countries, it shows the mortification of the flesh. The lent symbol also shows the same sign use for Jesus which is a cross sign.
Lent is celebrated among many religions with different traditions. Each community has its methods of celebrating this event. Lent has been celebrated for many years among the Church services and so to carry the tradition forever different steps are taken.
In Roman Tradition Lent starts from Ash Wednesday and finishes during the evening on Holy Saturday. This includes almost 46 days of Lent among them it includes 6 Sundays which are not included in Lent Fasting as during this day people don’t fast. While in Ambrosian Rite, Lent starts from Sunday which is then followed by Ash Wednesday. This includes 40 days but during
this period Sunday is counted, but Holy Thursdayis not included. First Sunday of Lent starts from vestments with chanting the Gloria and with the common saying “When you fast you don look gloomy.”
In Protestantism and Western orthodoxy the Lent season starts from Ash Wednesday to Holy Saturday. It takes about 46 days which includes the Sundays also. They all follow the same concept of Roman.
In Eastern Orthodox, they celebrate this by giving teachings on the fasting. These teachings are given by showing how to fast during each day and with whom you can fast. Even people teach how to perform different prayers and how money can be denoted in various charities.
